Kirk Deighton Rangers face an anxious wait to find out if they will be crowned Harrogate & District champions.

The table-toppers battled back to beat Ripon Red Arrows 2-1 on Saturday in their final match.

The win left them five points ahead of Beckwithshaw with their rivals having two games in hand.

‘Shaw beat Pannal Sports 4-3 on Tuesday evening to maintain their title tilt.

“They will finish their season on Tuesday with a trip to basement club Clifford after facing seventh-placed Killinghall Nomads on Saturday.

Dean Buckle’s side headed to Ripon with only 11 players and striker Spud Wilson playing in goal after usual goalkeeper Lewis Mallinson pulled out to play cricket.

But goals from Rob Holiday and Luke Hill saw them overturn a 1-0 deficit to run out winners.

Buckle said: “It was an exceptional performance. Spud Wilson is a goalkeeper for the future.

“We have finished strongly. We will just have to see how we go. If they drop any points, then that’s it.

“It was also nice to have an honest linesman in Brian Collin after our recent problems.”

Buckle thanked the club’s sponsors and fans for their support this season.
