Kirk Deighton Rangers boss Dean Buckle believes a “horrible” handball decision could have cost his side the Harrogate and District league title.

Rangers lost their potential title decider at Beckwithshaw Saints 1-0 after Russ Colling was adjudged to have handled in the box half-way through the second period.

The spot-kick went in and Saints saw out the final 20 minutes for victory.

The win gives Beckwithshaw the title-race advantage and they will claim the league if they take maximum points from their last three games.

Buckle said: “How you can give a penalty when they don’t appeal for it.

“There was a ball mark on his chest. It was a horrible decision.

“I am disappointed because the lads put a performance in and it was harsh on them.”

Buckle’s men beat Clifford 4-2 on Tuesday evening to go five points clear.

KDR face Ripon Red Arrows away on Saturday in their final league match before they will wait for the Saints to end their season.

Buckle added: “We beat them at home but we don’t know that much. We have to do a job and a get a result “We have to win and then see if Beckwithshaw win their three.”
