Two Ashville College Year 10 students will represent the region in netball and rugby.

Lucy Lister has been selected for the Yorkshire Region netball team to play in a National Match Day at Loughborough University next month against eight other regions.

The 15-year-old, who plays for Leeds Athletic Netball Club is part of Yorkshire Regional Excel Academy, was one of only ten chosen from across the county to play in the team.

Fellow Year 10 pupil, Ben Bond, has been selected for the Yorkshire U15 Rugby squad after being invited to attend a punishing day of trials with 89 other young hopefuls.

In a few weeks’ time, Ben will find out if he has been named to play in either the A or B teams in two matches against Lancashire A&B and Cheshire A&B.

Phil Holmes, Ashville College Director of Sport, said: “Lucy and Ben are two very gifted young netball and rugby players and this has been recognised by county selectors.

“Lucy has been a regular member of the schools U16 team and has also represented the 1st team this year and has been a regular member of the regional academy since the age of 11”.

“She is a natural when it comes to netball, and already ranks amongst the best players the school has ever produced.”

Mr Holmes added: “I’m delighted for Ben, as reaching this stage is incredibly difficult.

“He is now a member of the squad and we hope he has done enough to merit his inclusion in either team facing Lancashire and Cheshire at the end of next month.”
