Aire-Wharfe reigning champions Collingham got off to a flyer in their seasonal opener beating Ben Rhydding by 61 runs.
Former Yorkshire all-rounder Dave Girling starred on debut with an impressive 69 not out, ably assisted by opener Brian Leigh’s 48, as Collingham were bowled out for 189.
Spinners Toby Jacklin (4-46) and Ryan Sharrocks (4-20) skittled through Rhydding’s batting reply. But a stout last wicket stand added an extra 38 before the away team’s final wicket fell on 128.
Collingham skipper Sam Anderson said: “I’m obviously pleased but there were things we can still improve on.
“We need to be a lot more ruthless. They put on 30 or 40 runs for the last wicket which good teams don’t let other teams do”
The skipper said he was indebted to his spinning duo and Girling’s ‘brilliant’ knock.
He said: “There was a bit of pressure on Dave Girling. I had faith in him but he still had to prove himself in front of his new teammates.
“I’m expecting big things from him now.”
In Division Two, Bardsey slipped to a 85-run defeat at Thackley after being bowled out for 65.
