COLLINGHAM have given their battle against relegation a mighty boost by announcing the signature of Yorkshire star Chris Taylor.
The right-handed all-rounder returned to playing county cricket for Yorkshire this year after a spell at Derbyshire, and Collingham chairman Steve Booth said he may make his debut at home to North Leeds tomorrow (1.30pm start).
“We signed Chris last week and he should strengthen our side and bring some more quality to our team.
“We have won two games on the bounce now, so hopefully we are starting to turn things around. Spirits around the club are getting better and we hope that will continue.”
Taylor’s addition could prove the cataylst for a late safety push with the West Yorkshire outfit still bottom of the Division One pile.
On Saturday Collingham made it back-to-back wins after toppling title-chasing Rawdon by 95 runs.
Tim Hollis’ side bowled the home team out for just 112 to improve their chances of staying in the top flight, after posting 207-8 with Hollis scoring 43.
Toby Jacklin took 6-28 to leave Rawdon rooted in third place and with none of the three teams immediately above them - Pool, Burley or Bilton - managing to finish their matches, Collingham closed the gap on their nearest rivals to five points.
