THEIR home form has been fantastic and now SCARCROFT skipper Damian Aston is looking to make it six Wetherby League wins on the bounce against Great Preston tomorrow.
Preston make the trip looking to build on their fine victory over Old Mods last week, a result of which Aston has taken note.
He is expecting another tough contest but with players returning to the side he’s looking for another positive performance.
“Old Mods had won four out of five so it was a good win last week for Great Preston,” he said.
“It won’t be easy, we know that, but Carl Shaw will be coming back in; we’ll be at full strength for Saturday.
“One thing we wanted to do this season is make sure we were strong at home. So far it’s been very, very good; we’ve won four at home and we’ll be looking to keep that going.”
On Saturday on a damp wicket they crawled across the winning line on 69-6 after bowling out Walton for 68.
It keeps them ahead of the chasing pack, something Aston is looking to continue starting tomorrow.
“It was a very damp wicket but we bowled them out for 68 and I was pretty happy with that,” he added.
“We were then 22-4 in reply and really struggling but we pulled through in the end. Like I said last week, we’re still pinching ourselves with our start.
“But we’ve just got to keep it going.”
Meanwhile in the CHURCH FENTON camp Richard Grogan is hoping the club can grow in stature, despite the disappointment of losing another senior player recently.
They return to action tomorrow at home to SPOFFORTH.
Former Fenton vice-captain Tom Hudson has joined 2008 captain Adam Walton at Townville after a handful of appearances since returning to the club.
It’s another blow, according to Grogan, but the captain is determined to fight on and finish the season on a high.
“I’ve got sympathy with Tom,” said Grogan.
“Like me, he played in the 2007 championship-winning side and winning became a habit.
“He was frustrated with the position we’re in and became a bit disillusioned with it.
“But we’ve just got to keep going as a club.
“It gives us the chance to play the youngsters and it’s a great opportunity now for them.”
Grogan is looking forward to the challenge of Spofforth, who have returned to winning ways after their recent blip against Scarcroft.
“Spofforth are always a good side,” added Grogan.
“They lost Nick Robinson but no doubt they’ve got the strength in depth to cope.
