ST Aidan's School is celebrating another international call-up for one of its students.
Lucy Buxton, 15, represented England U-15s at basketball against Ireland in Belfast last week.

Lucy, who represents Doncaster Panthers in the National League, has been playing basketball since she was 12.

St Aidan’s already has a number of international stars including footballer Jonny Webb, England badminton regulars Jamie Bonsels and Ian Mercer.

Caitlin Chang is a current member of the Great Britain fencing squad.

Lucy’s achievement is all the more remarkable because she was born profoundly deaf and has worn cochlear implants since she was two years old.

“Lucy is an inspirational figure”, commented Dennis Richards, St Aidan’s Headteacher.

“One of our special ‘Lucy’ moments was when she was interviewed on Australian television by Professor Graham Clark, inventor of cochlear implants, while she was on our pupil to pupil exchange in Melbourne. ”

Lucy is also area discus and hurdles champion for her age group and represents Claro-Craven at netball.

Paul Stansfield, Head of PE said, “The whole school is very proud of her.”
