A COOL and breezy evening for Midsummer Madness in Burnt Yates was an improvement on last year's torrential downpour, and provided an evening of fine food and fun in aid of St Andrew's Church.
This year’s scarecrow competition, on a theme of Yorkshire Television characters, was down on entries, but Ashley the vicar from Emmerdale by Hilda Walmsley took the champagne prize.

The vicar had stood on the green outside the church all week attracting comment from passing cars and photographs from sightseers.

The traditional coconut shy proved popular, and everyone had a sporting chance with netball and putting competitions.

As usual the symbolic lighting of the bonfire rounded off the event with a roaring finish.
