A woman was left 'shaken' after a man punched her in the face while trying to grab her handbag as she walked down a cut-through in Tadcaster.

The woman in her 40's was walking along a cut between Manor Road and Wighill Lane when she was attacked on Friday April 8 at around 8.30am.

The man approached her from the direction of Wighill Lane before grabbing her bag and trying to pull it from her.

But the woman resisted, only letting go of her bag when the man punched her in the face.

North Yorkshire Police reported that the woman did not need hospital treatment, but was very shaken up by what happened and are now appealing for witnesses and information.

The suspect is described as white, aged in his twenties, wearing a blue tracksuit and riding a blue cycle.

The victim’s handbag contained her purse, a quantity of cash and her Samsung mobile phone.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, can help identify the suspect, or finds a discarded handbag or purse, to contact them.
