Witnesses needed for Tadcaster accident

Police are appealing for information following a serious three vehicle collision near Tadcaster.

The accident happened shortly after midday on Sunday September 30, on the A162 Sherburn-in-Elmet to Tadcaster road close to its junction with the A64, involving a gold Kia Sedona people carrier, a black Ford Fiesta and a yellow MG ZR.

Police said the Kia had left the A64 westbound waiting to turn right towards Tadcaster onto the A162 when it was in collision with the Ford Fiesta which was heading from Tadcaster towards Towton. The Fiesta then collided with the MG ZR which was travelling towards Tadcaster on the A162.

As a result of the collision the three occupants of the MG ZR and the driver of the Fiesta suffered serious injuries.

The rear seat passenger of the MG ZR, a 45-year-old man from Leeds, is currently in a critical but stable condition in York District Hospital. The driver of the MG, a man aged 81, and the front seat passenger, a 68-year-old woman, both from the Bingley area of West Yorkshire also sustained serious injuries and remain in hospital.

The 35-year-old local man driving the Fiesta has been discharged from hospital.

Traffic Constable Andrew Morton, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on the A162 or was near the junction with the A64 at the time and may have seen any of the vehicles involved.

“I ask that they come forward and contact the police as soon as possible.”

Anyone who can help with this enquiry is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Andrew Morton. Alternatively information can be emailed to andrew.morton@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk quoting reference number 12120164514.
