A Wetherby entertainments venue that was closed for over a year has been granted permission to host weddings and receptions.

Bosses at the Engine Shed, which is housed in a Grade II listed former railway building say they have obtained a civil ceremony licence and have already had bookings.

“It’s a fantastic venue for weddings,” said Director of Development, Sally Barton.

“It’s got a truly unique atmosphere and is a great place to celebrate your special day.

“We’ve already got a number of weddings booked in for this year, so we’re confident it’s going to be a success.”

The Engine Shed is all set to host its first wedding fair on Sunday from 11am–4pm, with free admission.

It will see 25 local wedding suppliers set out their stalls ranging from bridal gowns to stylists and travel agents.

Director Ricky Barton, who runs the venue with wife Sally and business partners kay and Alex Hogg, said they had had an extremely successful five months since reopening the former dance venue.

“We’re really pleased with how quickly everything has taken off and how successful these last few months have been,” said Ricky.

“Our New Year’s Eve Party was a particular highlight – the evening was so popular we reached our capacity of 450, and were literally having to turn people away.”

Before closing The Engine Shed used to draw people in from thoughout the region to its dance nights and local radio station Tempo FM used to be based there.

But the new owners are looking for other new directions than weddings and with a full programme of events lined up for 2013, they feel sure there will be something to suit all tastes.

“We’ve got some really exciting events planned already this year,” said Marketing Director Alex Hogg.

“As well as our wedding fair, comedy nights and our first ever beer festival and family fun day, we’ve also got a number of exciting live bands coming to the Shed.

“Popular 60s groups, The Troggs and The Animals, will be performing for us, as well as the Jive Aces who recently shot to fame on Britain’s Got Talent.”

Regular dance sessions are run at the venue including modern jive, salsa and Zumba.
