Waste plant at Tockwith rejected

BCB Environmental's plans to build a waste incinerator near Tockwith village have been unanimously rejected by North Yorkshire County Council today.

Councillors upheld their planning officers recommendation to reject the 23m facility at the Marston Business Park which would have burned thousands of tonnes of land fill to generate electricity.

BCB's application has created a storm of opposition over the last 24 months after nearby Tockwith residents feared the plant's emmissons would seriously damage their health.

Hundreds of residents attended todays planning meeting in Northallerton to voice their concerns.

A BCB representative said: "We are obviously disappointed – but not totally surprised - by North Yorkshire County Council's decision to reject our proposal.

"It is a decision which we believe has clearly been influenced by political considerations – rather than the planning and environmental facts."
