UFOs spotted around Wetherby district

STRANGE lights seen over the Wetherby district at the weekend have left residents baffled.

Five or six orange lights were spotted around the Scarcroft and Thorner area on Saturday evening.

They hung in an arc in the sky, staying in the same position before disappearing completely.

Denise John, who was driving towards Thorner when she saw the lights, said she could not think of an explanation for them.

"They were very bright and very orange," she said. "They went up and curved round at the top and were perfectly spaced. I thought at first they were stars but they were too orange.

"They were too evenly spaced to be a natural phenomenon."

Denise checked the internet for an explanation when she got home without success, but she did find a number of similar, unexplained sightings across the UK in recent months.

Last August, several orange lights floating across the Harrogate district were spotted by numerous residents who were at a loss to explain them. They turned out to be Chinese lanterns made of rice paper, lit at a party and released into the night sky.

But the Thorner lights were not moving, prompting speculation about other possible causes. With no noise either, Denise is sure they could not have been caused by aircraft, but she is keen to hear from anyone else who saw them or might have an explanation.
