Threat to council prayers

PRAYERS at Harrogate Council meetings could be under threat after a court ruling.

The High Court has said Bideford Town Council in Devon acted unlawfully by allowing prayers to be said at meetings, following an action brought by the National Secular Society.

A Harrogate Council spokesman said the authority was monitoring the situation and would probably ask for a report as to what to do next.

North Yorkshire County Council said the agenda for its quarterly meeting on Wednesday had been issued before the Bideford court ruling.

A spokesman said: “On this occasion, we are expecting to take prayers before the formal business of the meeting begins and the county council chairman will invite members who wish to join him and his chaplain in prayers to do so.

“We await the outcome of the Bideford appeal with interest.”

This article is now out of date. Council prayers are now safe, thanks to the government. Aetheists must remember they have the right to rant and rave because they live in a christian country. Would the reverse be true?? Wouldnt it be nice if peeps on ere could use their own brains instead of brainwashing themselves ont tinternet. As in post #7. May your god go with you.mmm

And if you think that post is also unsuitable then I would suggest you "relocate" to either the deep south of the USA or somewhere which is fundamentally just as dangerous ... I wish you good luck ...

I'll post it again - without the b word ... prayers are for church and the mosque - not for the Council meetings ...

I feel as tho ive just read the most bizarre thing ever - prayers before council meetings! Are these to guide councillors into making the right decisions about planning and everything else? If that's the case Big G must be having a right laugh at the expense of Harrogate residents. What a load of cobblers, I suggest the next time the council commits a faux pas they blame it on divine intervention - roflmao!
