There's a hornet in my truflles!

A MAN telephoned Bettys pretending he had found a hornet in his box of champagne truffles.

The man – who is now being sought by police for the scam – called staff at the Harlow Carr and Parliament Street branches to demand a refund for the 26 chocolates.

He said he had bought the truffles, found the hornet and returned the box to the shop. He continued the phone call by telling staff he had been promised a refund, but it had not arrived.

He then gave his details, using the same card number in calls to both branches but a different name each time.

Harrogate Police Inspector Mike Woodhall said: "It appears someone is dishonestly trying to obtain money on a credit card.

"If it is attempted fraud we will be knocking on the door of that person very shortly once we have details from the credit card company."
