A Wetherby Scout is set to climb Mount Kilimanjaro this summer in a bid to raise money for the Hope for Children charity.
Law student Naomi Probert received backing from the town’s Lions Club to fund the challenge and raise cash for disadvantaged children in Moshi, close to the base of the mountain.
The 18-year-old said: “I am delighted to receive this support from Wetherby Lions Club.
“Hope for Children is an excellent charity that helps some of the most deprived street children in many parts of the World.
“Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro will be a real challenge, but knowing that I will have helped some of these very disadvantaged children will be incredibly satisfying.”
Naomi is a member of the group as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader with 1st Shadwell group and is Young Spokesman for Central Yorkshire Scouts but still finds time to help out with a Cub group in Nottingham where she is studying law at the university.
She said she will be raising money for a project called Mkombozi which is building a new transition centre in the town to give safe shelter to children living on the streets.
Hope for Children (HOPE) currently has projects in Africa, Asia and Europe .
