A Tadcaster school held its final Key Stage Three awards in a glittering celebration as new changes at the school will take it into a different phase.
Tadcaster Grammar School held its final Key Stage 3 Presentation Awards Evening which will now be replaced with House Celebration Evenings as the school reverts to the old House system, an original feature of the school.
From September, the school, which recently received national recognition from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust for the proportion of top grades achieved by its students, will readopt the old system.
The official welcome was given by Mr Philip Turnpenny, chairman of governors, alongside headteacher Mr Geoff Mitchell.
He said: “The school is constantly seeking ways to improve performance and ensure good structures can be further enhanced.”
One of these will be with the new Vertical Tutoring (VT) which is a way of operating form time with a tutor at secondary school.
Tadcaster Grammar School’s current care and guidance system is organised in year groups.
The tutor groups for each year group are composed of students of the same age.
In a vertical tutoring structure the system is organised so that houses are more important and the tutor groups will have students of all ages, year seven through to Year 13.
The mixed age groups will meet each day and learn to work as a small self-supporting group, much like a family group.
The rest of the school day and all other lesson structures will remain the same.
