Students' successes celebrated at Belmont Grosvenor School
PUPILS' achievements during the past academic year have been honoured at the annual speech day and prize-giving ceremony at Belmont Grosvenor School.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Harrogate, Coun Bill Hoult and his wife Vanessa, were guests of honour at the annual event, held in a marquee in the grounds of the independent prep school, based at Swarcliffe Hall, Birstwith.
Parents, staff and pupils listened as headteacher Jane Merriman outlined the highlights of the year, and spoke of the core values and spirit of Belmont Grosvenor School – those of integrity, honesty and loyalty.
“There is a feeling of pride, moral obligation and strong family principles amongst all. BGS is a place where childhoods are cherished and children can still be allowed to be children,” said Mrs Merriman.
During her review of the past academic year, Mrs Merriman praised pupils and staff for their hard work and commitment and their achievements - not just academic but also sporting, musical, dramatic and creative.
And she celebrated Year 6’s 100 per cent pass rate in entrance exams to independent secondary schools.
Guest speaker at the speech day was Pat Langham, retired headteacher of Wakefield Girls’ High School.
Following the speeches, prizes were handed out to pupils for a wide range of achievements, from traditional subjects including history, English and maths, to a Headteacher’s Award for Consideration to Others, a Kindness Cup and a Recognition of Endeavour Award.
