Snowfall hits the Wetherby area
Heavy snowfall and icy conditions have lead to disruption across the Wetherby area this morning.
Commuters faced delays as the snow fell overnight and at peak rush hour today.
The Yorkshire Ambulance have issued motorists with a warning about the treacherous conditions.
The ambulance service said it was expecting to see a “marked increase in weather-related slips, trips and falls and road traffic collisions”.
David Williams, deputy director of operations, said: “Our staff are working extremely hard to get to people who call upon us for help as quickly and as safely as possible but understandably hazardous driving conditions may lead to extended drive-times meaning it might take us a little longer than normal to reach patients in the worst-hit areas.”
West Yorkshire Metro, the county’s public transport provider, said most bus services in the county were running.
Bus services to Wetherby, including the 770, Transdev Service, were running as normal.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency added that although slow, major routes across the Wetherby area were all open.
More snow and freezing temperatures are forecast for the district throughout the day and into tomorrow, Tuesday.
