YEAR eight pupils at Tadcaster Grammar joined more than 150,000 schoolchildren from the UK and overseas in a bid to to break the Guinness World Record for the most people performing sign language.

Taking part in the Sign2Sing event were students Kieran Moule, Donovan Myers, Nick Broadhead and Ben Amies-King.

Nick and Kieran already had experience of sign language which they had been taught at Thorner Primary.

Kieran raised £15 and said: “I asked others to sponsor me instead of just giving money myself, because I always like to collect as much as I can.”

“Kieran always goes that extra mile whenever we have a fundraising event, but I am very proud of all my Year Eight students for the way they have embraced this,” said Head of Year, Joyce Harrison.

Sign2Sing at Tadcaster was co-ordinated by Catherine Frieze who added: “When I heard about the opportunity to take part in Sign2Sing I thought it would tie in perfectly with my life skills lessons.

“It was brilliant. They were so engrossed.”
