Sherburn brownies launch commemorative stamps
A GROUP of Brownies from Sherburn in Elmet has helped launch a set of commemorative stamps.
The Royal Mail has released the special stamps to mark the centenary of the girl guiding movement.
The designs feature girls from all levels of the organisation, from Rainbows upwards, and illustrate some of the many activities undertaken by the 10million members in more than 140 countries worldwide.
Members of the 2nd Sherburn in Elmet pack visited Leeds Mail Centre to find out about the importance of addressing letters properly and using postcodes - while also working towards their Brownie Skills pack.
Brown Owl Kate Boocock said: "It is great to see the centenary of Girlguiding UK recognised on the latest set of stamps.
"Rainbows and Brownies give girls the chance to have fun while learning new skills and when they are older the Guides and Senior Section teach them about making their own decisions, but still with the emphasis on fun."
Julietta Edgar, head of special stamps at the Royal Mail, said: "This vibrant and action-packed miniature sheet captures the many activities and achievements of an organisation which continues to shape the lives of millions of young people around the world."
