Heavy snowfall has brought major disruption to Harrogate today with severe weather warnings remaining in place throughout the region.

A number of bus services in the area were cancelled or delayed this morning with Transdev calling off its first morning service from Harrogate to Pateley after the bus became stuck in snow.

The bus operator has also cancelled a number of services in Follifoot and Rudding Park after roads were deemed too unsafe for travel.

Main roads in Harrogate remain open but cars are travelling very slowly, with minor back roads to the west of Harrogate badly affected by drifting snow and a number of stranded cars.

“Hard to believe that with at least three inches of snow, it’s still falling steadily in Harrogate,” said Graham Richards on Twitter.

Meanwhile, sporting events have been affected with Harrogate Rugby Club asking volunteers and club supporters to bring shovels to help clear the pitch ahead of its fixture with Chester at 3pm today.

Weather forecasters predict more snow will fall today and tomorrow in North and West Yorkshire, with high winds and temperatures plummeting to -2.

The Met Office issued an amber weather warning across Yorkshire last night as significant snow accumulations fell on higher ground.

Leeds/Bradford Airport is open but passengers travelling to and from the airport face disruption due to the weather and are advised to check the status of flights before arriving.
