Robbery at Sherburn-in-Elmet bookmakers

Detectives are appeal for witnesses and information about a robbery at a Sherburn-in-Elmet bookmakers.

The incident happened at Betfred, on Low Street, at about 9pm on Friday March 1.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said that a man threatened staff with a wooden stick before making off on foot with an amount of cash.

They added: “No-one was harmed in the incident but staff members were left shocked and upset.

Extensive police enquiries were carried out over the weekend to locate the suspect.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in Sherburn-in-Elmet at 4.30pm on Sunday March 3.

Following questioning in custody, he was released on police bail pending further investigation.

Officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for public assistance.

Detective Constable Lee Maeer, of Selby CID, said: “We are following a number of lines of enquiry to progress the investigation and secure justice for the victims.

“It is important that witnesses to the robbery or anyone who recalls seeing any suspicious individuals or behaviour in the Low Street area on Friday evening, come forward to the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”
