Wetherby resident Dawn Walker has scooped the grand prize of a signed Leeds United shirt at Specsavers’ annual raffle, which raised vital funds and awareness for the Yorkshire branch of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society.

The Horsefair Centre store raised over £200 during the year.

Geoff Harper, store director, said: ‘We’re delighted with the funds our customers and staff have raised. It was great to see the local community come together and support such a fantastic charity, dedicated to helping those in Yorkshire.’

Dawn, who won the priceless Leeds United shirt signed by the full first team said: ‘I’m very pleased with my prize as I’ve never won a competition before! I’ve given the signed shirt to my husband as he is a big Leeds United fan. I’m currently redecorating and as soon as I’m finished the framed shirt will take pride of place on the wall.’

The Multiple Sclerosis Society is the UK’s largest charity dedicated to supporting everyone whose life is touched by MS, providing an award-winning freephone helpline (0808 800 8000), specialist MS information and funding more than 70 vital MS research projects in the UK.

MS is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults and an estimated 100,000 people in the UK have MS. It is the result of damage to myelin – the protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres of the central nervous system – which interferes with messages between the brain and the body.
