Prince Charles loves Harrogate
PRINCE Charles has agreed to become patron of the horticultural group that hosts the Harrogate Flower Shows.
The heir to the throne said he was delighted to accept the invitation from the North of England Horticultural Society (NEHS) and will be the patron for the next five years.
A spokesman for the NEHS said Prince Charles' knowledge and passion for gardening made him an ideal ambassador for the group.
Harrogate Flower Shows director Martin Fish said: "We are incredibly honoured that The Prince of Wales has agreed to become patron of the North of England Horticultural Society.
"His love of gardening is well-known and I hope that we as a leading gardening charity can echo His Royal Highness's enthusiasm and gardening ethos, not only at our shows but also when supporting horticulture in the North of England. I'm sure with the support of The Prince of Wales we can get this message across to gardeners old and new."
The NEHS, which was established in 1911, set up its enduringly popular annual spring and autumn shows in 1927. The events are now known as the Harrogate Spring and Autumn Flower Shows.
The society celebrates its centenary next year. Recently the Prince also accepted an invitation to be patron of Harrogate International Festival.
