Office worker Jon hoping to sing his way to 'Idol' status

A HOST of celebrities will judge a singing Wetherby man at the regional final of Idol 2008 in Newcastle tomorrow night.

Jon Moses, 24, who works for Rocom at Thorp Arch, is just one of 20 others who has made it through to the northern final of the nationwide talent competition for aspiring singers and dancers.

Jon will sing The Rose by boy band Westlife in front of a packed audience at The Journal Tyne Theatre in Newcastle cheered on by his friends and family.

There he will be judged on his singing talent by the likes of Cheryl Baker, Liz McClarnon, Dane Bowers, Jane McDonald and X-factor 2007 runner up Ben Mills.

"Everyone has been really really supportive so far and they're all willing me on to do well in this competition," said Jon.

"I absolutely love singing and I literally sing everywhere I can. I even sing to some of my clients sometimes!"

"I first started singing when I was about 11 after I got selected to be in the County Durham Youth Choir when I lived up there with my family.

"I did lots of musical theatre when I was at school and recently I was an entertainments manager at a hotel in Majorca so I've had plenty of performing experience."

If Jon, who has made it through to the final stages of ITV's X-factor in the past, makes it through to the final of this competition he will be thrust into the media spotlight.

If he wins at the Portsmouth-based final next month he will be crowned Idol 2008 and he'll meet many professionals from within the entertainment industry including those from recording agencies and the music business.

"The ultimate prize for this competition is a recording contract and a single release with the aim to hit the national music charts later this year," said Jon.

"You never know what's going to happen and I'm really looking forward to the experience. It'll be fun at least to try and get there!"
