No 36 bus route goes hi-tech with iPhone move

WHEN'S the next bus? Where's the nearest stop, and how much will it cost?

All the important questions, at least for travellers on the No 36 bus, can now be answered with an iPhone app. The innovative move, brought in by Transdev Harrogate and District, is a first in the country for transport and travel.

Passengers on the flagship route between Ripon and Leeds can download an application on to their iPhones which will tell them all they need to know, about where they are, how long they will have to wait, and how much they will have to pay.

Transdev's Nigel Eggleton said: "In a high tech age, where IT is part of most people's lives, we are really proud to have been the first to give passengers such useful information straight to their iPhone."

The "app" has been developed by the software company TVS Media, is free of charge to download and install, and can be found on the App Store.
