New kite festival gears up for take-off in May

A WETHERBY Kite festival will be flying in the town to help raise money for the four primary schools in Wetherby.

The first-ever Wetherby Festival of Flight will take place on May 12.

Collingham resident Colin Shepherd is one of the key organisers of the event, which will be held in the fields at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

He told the Wetherby News: “We would like to encourage creative thinking in the area particularly in young people, the event underlying is about creativity, innovation, family, fun and community.

“A key area that we are passionate about is building of the community to create an event that could further improve people’s perception of Wetherby.”

As well as kite flying, entertainment at the fundraising event will include a street dance display, falconry display and a beer tent. For more information contact Colin Shepherdson on 07827444592.
