New £9million health centre to be officially opened by MP
WETHERBY MP Colin Burgon will officially open the purpose-built £9million Wetherby Health Centre next Wednesday.
The opening ceremony will be held at 12.30pm, followed by an open-for-all health fair event from 2pm which will offer advice on stopping smoking, oral health, breast feeding awareness and fuel poverty among other things.
The centre, which was completed in May, has revamped healthcare in Wetherby bringing a range of services under one roof.
These include podiatry, physiotherapy and a popular baby clinic. The centre is also home to Dr Knight and Partners GP practice.
Colin Burgon, Labour MP for Elmet said: “I am delighted to have been invited to officially open the Wetherby Health Centre. This new building provides high quality local healthcare in a modern environment for all the people of Wetherby and the neighbouring areas. It’s a great asset to the community.”
Christine Outram, chief executive of Leeds PCT added: “The Wetherby Health Centre has transformed healthcare facilities for local people and provides staff with 21st century surroundings to work in.
“It is the eighth new health centre to be built under the LIFT scheme, a partnership between the public and private sectors.”
The health fair will offer the entire community a chance to view the health centre whilst learning about the new services available and general public health issues.
Members of the Leeds PCT are setting up displays and they will offer free advice and information on how people can lead a healthier lifestyle.
