New era for Boston Spa Brownies
TWO decades of tradition has come to an end for a groups of girls in Boston Spa.
Debbie Brooke, Brown Owl at 1st Boston Spa Brownies, is retiring after 20 years with the group, which began when she was just 18 years old.
Also stepping down are Zoe Hickman, who has been Tawny Owl for eight years, and the group's Barn Owl, Denise Barton. She came to the group four years ago to help out daughter Denise after leaving her position as Brown Owl in Bramham.
To make the departure of the three leaders, the pack held a party for current and former members. Some of the girls spoke about their favourite memories and presented gifts, including a book of mementoes.
Mum Jo Tinkler said: "As I have been collecting the memories for Debbie's book, I realised just how many girls have benefited from 1st Boston Spa Brownies. Debbie's dedication with the support of numerous Tawny, Barn and Snowy Owls has enriched the lives and experiences of so many girls over the last 20 years."
The girls at 1st Boston Spa have enjoyed pack holidays, swimming galas, camp fires, sports, games and crafts. The traditions will be upheld by the new leaders, Brown Owl Judith Schur and Tawny Owl Beth Franklin, who will take over.
