Lashings World XI challenge
Wetherby Cricket Club is preparing to undertake the biggest single event in its history this summer.
On Sunday June 17 the Grange Park-based club will be hosting the prestigious Lashings World XI team in a match, preceded by a special luncheon.
Club secretary and junior coach Dave Shuttleworth said: “Clearly we are looking to raise a considerable sum of money for the club which we need to maintain and improve all aspects of our cricketing experience at Grange Park.
“We will need funds for equipment, the new nursery ground, sight screens and nets, to name just a few.
“We also need funds to help contribute to the Grange Park Sports Club development which will be starting later this year.”
He added: “In some respects, just as important, is the kudos and raised profile of the club that this event will bring.
“This cannot necessarily be measured in financial terms but will help establish us as a focal cricket club in the area.”
The Lashings World XI will feature some of the globe’s greatest players and past members have included Sachin Tendulkar and Courtney Walsh.
The club is offering hospitality and sponsorship packages.
