Hotel owner faces charges

A BUSINESSMAN from Harrogate is due to appear in court next week to face charges relating to alleged fraud.

Philip Barker, 44, from Oatlands Drive, who owns the White Hart and Balmoral hotels, as well as the Fat Badger restaurant, is one of eight men charged in the case.

It follows an allegation by the Royal Bank of Scotland and other lenders that loans were fraudulently obtained to the value of more than £30m. The defendants are expected to enter pleas at Reading Crown Court on Thursday, March 1.
