Helicopter crash death - instructor denies charge

A WETHERBY flight instructor has denied a charge over a helicopter crash which killed a millionaire and his wife.

Paul and Linda Spencer, from Brighhouse, died in the crash at Rudding Park, Harrogate on January 26 2008.

Iain King, 53, of Burns Way, Clifford, pleaded not guilty to the charge of intent to deceive, making a false representation for the purpose of procuring for Mr Spencer the granting of a private pilot’s licence.

Mr King, who wore a white checked shirt, spoke only to confirm his name during the 10-minute hearing at York Crown Court on Monday.

Paul Spencer 43, and his wife, Linda, 59, ran County Baskets, a business which sold dried flowers, and were regular visitors to the Rudding Park Hotel.

Although no trial date was fixed, Mr King, who was given unconditional bail, is likely to be tried at Leeds Crown Court in the Autumn, the court heard.
