Gateways School in Harewood has been declared outstanding.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate carried out in an inspection of the Early Years Foundation Stage provision, the Prep School and High School and judged the nursery and pre-prep department to be outstanding.

Both settings were assessed on four main areas of Early Years Foundation Stage provision – meeting the needs of the range of children who attend, the contribution the setting makes to the well-being of the children, the effectiveness of the setting’s leadership and management and finally, the overall quality of provision for the children.

In all four areas it received the highest accolade of ‘outstanding’.

In Prep and High School the inspection regime is focused on all aspects of the school’s provision within certain distinct categories.

A school spokesman said it was pleased to have secured the highest judgment of ‘excellent’ in - quality of pupils’ achievements and learning; quality of curricular provision; quality of extra-curricular provision; quality of teaching; quality of the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development; quality of pastoral care.

Dr Tracy Johnson, Gateways School headmistress, said: “We are all very proud that Gateways has received such a glowing report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

“At Gateways we pride ourselves on our ability to provide an exceptionally high level of individual attention with excellent teaching and pastoral care.

“We aim to achieve the best possible academic and personal outcomes for all our pupils and the inspection report absolutely confirms that we are highly successful in achieving our aims.”
