German link prospers with visit by twin town

A WEEKEND of variety helped Bardsey residents welcome visitors from the continent.

A group from the twinned town Kisdorf arrived for a welcome at the Bingley Arms for a lunch held by members of Bardsey Parish Council.

They were joined by host families and people who have been involved in the scheme for the past 35 years.

Parish council chairman Ed Stentiford welcomed the guests and said he hoped the strong links would continue between the two communities.

Two of the Kisdorf party, Angela Schiller and Matthias Triep, spoke of their memories of a visit to Bardsey in 1974 when they were teenagers. Both said the trip had been a positive influence on their development.

The weekend also boasted the scarecrow festival, which drew families from across the district to find and identify the creations around the village.

With about 30 entries, the judges had a difficult task picking their favourite entries. First prize was given to Louise Davison and Debbie Reed for Indiana Jones, second was taken by Hazel Smith’s Highland Fling and Family LIfe by Ann Littlewood and family was in third place.

The entries were of such a high standard, two certificates of high commendation were awarded to Dorothy and the rainbow from the Wizard of Oz, created by Holly, Lisa and Tony Goddard, and a scout camp display set up on East Rigton Village Green by 1st Bardsey Cubs.
