First for learning centre as Polish courses offered at High School
FOR the first time, Polish will be among the language courses offered this autumn at Wetherby Centre.
This is the local arm of Leeds City College and uses the high school building on Hallfield Lane.
Enrolment for next term’s daytime and evening classes starts from Monday, August 23, to Thursday, August 26 (10am to 2pm) or Tuesday, September 7 (6.30pm to 8.30pm) or Thursday, September 9 (6.30pm to 8.30pm).
“A number of people have asked for Polish lessons and we have obtained a very enthusiastic lady teacher,” said programme manager Sue Armitage. “Quite a lot of East Europeans live locally.
“A couple of Wetherby people say they have bought property in Poland. Two students from last year’s Russian class say they want to learn Polish this time.”
Russian is offered again and other languages programmed are Spanish, Latin, Italian, French and Greek. Sign language for beginners is another option.
Five-week computer courses for absolute beginners will introduce them to the basics of email and the internet.
Local photographer Chris McMurray will start a new course and other classes include Mediterranean gluten-free cookery, chocolate creations, the world of wine, local history, Tai Chi and Pilates, and salsa, ballroom, samba, jive and tango dances.
