Crowds gathered to cheer on the entrants in the very first Windmill Hill Soap Box Derby last weekend.
Carts of all designs hurtled, if they were lucky and didn’t run off onto the grass verge, down the hill in Bramham in a race for honours.
From the most basic to ones looking like sleek formula one racing cars, soap boxes reached 45mph in the senior driver section and the juniors proved their prowess at staying the course.
Organisers, who hope to boost the £100,000 needed for new changing rooms for Clifford football club, have said they are hoping it will the first of many.
Spectator Steven Wicks said: “There were a few spills and entries into the hedge as they thundered down the hill, but fortunately St Johns Ambulance Brigade were in attendance but not required. The only bruises were to pride.”
