Final preparations for show

Entries have been flooding in for this year's Nidderdale Show, which takes place in two weeks' time.

With applications for most categories now closed, overall entries for livestock are up on last year.

Youngsters can still enter the "pet on the lead" contest on the day, with Helen Blakey from the show saying organisers are looking for something "weird and wonderful" in that competition.

"It's not just about cats and dogs," she said. "Maybe a child has got a ferret or a great big rabbit they'd like to bring along – something a bit outside the norm."

The wealth of competitive classes – which this year cover everything from food to handicrafts and computer graphics – will be complemented by a series of top attractions.

A cricket match and a display of vintage cars are promised, while music will be provided by a brass band, and visitors can drop into a marquee featuring local clubs.

The show takes place at Bewerley Park, Pateley Bridge on Monday, September 20, with the parade from 11am. Tickets are 8 for adults, with children under 12 admitted free. Parking is 5.
