Dusty set for Great North Run for diabetes charity
INSPIRED by her boyfriend's battle with diabetes, a Wetherby woman has signed up to take part in this year's Great North Run.
Dusty Adams, who lives in Wetherby, will be dusting off her running shoes to raise money for research charity Diabetes UK.
The 27-year-old, who runs Daniel’s beauty salon on Church Street, was shocked when her boyfriend Grant Taylor was diagnosed with the condition three years ago.
She said: “It was a shock to us that diabetes could occur in someone of such a young age.
“I just hope by running I can raise awareness of the condition and the great work that Diabetes UK does.”
Dusty is already well under way with her training regime for the gruelling 13 mile race and is hoping to raise as much money as possible for the charity.
She added: “I have already raised a few hundred pounds for Diabetes UK but I would like to raise more. I always keep my sponsor form to hand for when people are feeling generous!”
Jeff Breen, regional fundraising manager for Diabetes UK, is hoping that other Great North Run participants will consider making their miles go further by running for Diabetes UK
He said: “The Great North Run is the world’s largest half marathon and an iconic event.
“Runners who already have a place in the race can still choose to run on behalf of Diabetes UK and help support the millions of people who are affected by diabetes.”
Anyone who already has a place in the Great North Run and chooses to run on behalf of Diabetes UK will gain exclusive access to an online training room where they will find tailored running plans and advice from professional athletes and fitness experts.
Team members will also receive exclusive running vests, discounts in running stores, post-race hospitality, a massage after the event and a Diabetes UK goodie bag.
