Drive for better road safety
Alec Shelbrooke MP and Coun Matthew Robinson
Wetherby MP Alec Shelbrooke has given his support to a consultation on parking problems in the villages of Barwick-in-Elmet and Scholes after numerous complaints from residents.
Leeds City Council is conducting the consultation on introducing double yellow lines, parking restrictions and safety measures in some areas across the two villages after local ward councillors brought the proposals forward with a joint project of North East Outer Area Committee funding matched by Leeds City Council Highways funding.
Mr Shelbrooke said: “I have heard about the problems in these two villages and I am pleased that plans have been brought forward to seek a solution.
“It is essential that local people should have a say in what is introduced into their villages, and this consultation will provide a good opportunity to do just that.
“I look forward to seeing the outcome of the consultation.”
Coun Matthew Robinson added: “I am pleased to have Alec’s support and also pleased that we are able to deliver on our pledge to the people of Barwick and Scholes that we would draw up proposals to improve road safety and reduce problem parking.
“The proposals have been put together taking into account a great deal of feedback from residents and have support from many in the community.
“But as Alec has said it is essential that people have their say, and raise any concerns or write in support of the scheme.”

This innovative altiuristic website has road safety for schools and how's my driving components as well as general reporting. Launched last week and already supported by a number of MPs and approved by senior police officers around the country the scheme needs the public on board to gain further traction. It's free, it works and could save lives. What other reason do you need? If you drive the scheme is not something you can opt out of, log on and check your registration, you may have a comment.
