Former Yorkshire and England cricketer Ryan Sidebottom is lending his support to this year’s Boston Spa Beer Festival.

Organisers said this week that to mark the occasion a unique special beer is to be brewed in his honour and will be called Left Arm Over.

And the fourth such event, on February 17 and 18, will feature all the winning beers from the 2011 CAMRA Great British Beer Festival at the village hall base.

Festival organiser Paul Martin said: “We wanted to do something different this year, and felt it would create a lot of interest if we were to feature these fantastic champion beers alongside the best that Yorkshire has to offer.

“As well as being a strong community event, people travel from as far away as Brighton for the festival and we wanted to go the extra mile this year and give our visitors something a bit special.”

The category winning beers come from as far away as Renfrewshire, Essex, Hampshire, Cumbria and Shropshire and will be alongside over 30 of Yorkshire’s best cask ales.

Yorkshire now has more breweries than anywhere else in the UK and beers from all over the county will be available along with award winning ciders and perrys.

Leeds and York-based estate agent DHP Croft are this year’s main sponsor.

Partner Jonathan Phillips added: “We’re extremely proud to be associated with a successful community event which is in our heartland and also supports local charities.”

So far, over £30,000 has been raised for the local school and village hall.
