Call for education standards to improve

A Wetherby councillor has called for better education standards in Leeds.

Coun Alan Lamb, shadow spokesman for children’s services and education has called for Leeds City Council to improve the services it offers to underperforming schools in Leeds to ensure they improve quickly.

And he has asked the council to address poor standards by allowing underperforming schools to be set free from bureaucratic Local Education Authority control, in line with the Government’s Education reform agenda. He has also called for more robust measures to identify and deal with bad teachers at schools in Leeds.

Councillor Alan Lamb (Conservative, Shadow Spokesman for Children’s Services and Education) said: “Like every parent, grandparent, auntie, uncle and guardian, I know that the greatest gift any of us can give to a child is the benefit of a good education.

“We need to ensure that every child in Leeds has the same chance in life, I do not want to see the postcode lottery of education continue any longer than it has to in this city.

“It is important that all underperforming schools are made to improve quickly.

“There are too many underperforming schools in Leeds.”
