Snow has fallen across the Harrogate district bringing disruption to roads across the district.

The show fall began late on Sunday, January 13 and residents across the area awoke to snow covered footpaths and frozen roads, and more is forecast.

Drivers face disruption on the AI(M) near Boroughbridge and Dishforth with snow and fog making road conditions dangerous.

Hazardous driving conditions are also reported on the A66 around Scotch Corner and on the A170 from Thirsk towards Sutton Bank.

And Twitter users are reporting that country rounds around the Harrogate district are becoming difficult to travel - including the road from Beckwithshaw to Norwood.

But publis transport is running as normal at the moment with no delays or disruptions reported from Harrogate railway station or on Transdev bus services in the area.

North Yorkshire Councy Council reported gritters would be at work on “priority one” routes around the Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough areas overnight, and would be on standby to clear and grit other roads in the area this morning, Monday, January 14.

More snow and freezing temperatures are forecast for the district throughout the day and into tomorrow, Tuesday. Keep up to date with the Met Office’s forecast for the area here: www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/harrogate#?tab=fiveDay

With the cold snap predicted to last up to two weeks North Yorkshire Police are urging people to prepare for the weather and take care on the roads.

Inspector Vicky Taylor, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “If your route is affected by snow or ice, the first thing you need to consider is whether or not your journey is actually necessary. If it isn’t essential and alternative work or personal arrangements can be made, then don’t go - simple as that.”

No schools in the area were reported as closed.
