Boxes of goodies for homeless

BOXES of goodies are on their way to the homeless in York thanks to the generosity of Year 10 students at Tadcaster Grammar School.

Thirty-eight shoeboxes containing items ranging from biscuits and soup to shampoo and books will be given to the residents of the Arc Light Centre in Union Terrace, York for Christmas.

“Close links have been formed between the centre and the school,” said Mrs Harrison, Head of Year 10 at Tadcaster Grammar School.

“I am thrilled by the response of the students who have been so generous to those less fortunate than themselves,” she added.

Residents living at the Arc are helped to regain self-esteem, independence and social skills as well as support to help them move on.

“Next term we hope it will be possible for some of the residents to come to Tadcaster Grammar School and share their experiences with the students about being homeless,” said Mrs Harrison.
