Bardsey news

Good Companions: This group of Golden Oldies had a change in their usual programme at their last meeting. They met for lunch in the Callister Hall and had a tasty fish and chip meal which went down extremely well. Helpers and chauffeurs joined members to make for a friendly atmosphere. If there is anyone in the area who would like an afternoon out each fortnight then don't hesitate to get in touch with Gill Thackeray on 0113 2892264, who will arrange a lift if necessary.

All Hallows: The flowers from the festival of last week lingered on through last Sunday, and the shoes outside surprisingly remained full of flowers despite the rabbits. We had the pleasure of the Rev Bill Snelson leading the service in the absence of Rev Chris and it was good to have him back. Prayers for Gordon Nutter, a genuine Christian gentleman recently deceased were said and also for Brian Moscrop who despite being in hospital for months, hopefully is improving.

A recommendation: For a while now I have intended walking the footpath from Collingham to Wetherby on the riverside. Last Sunday seemed the ideal opportunity and the weather was fine and so parking the car in Church Lane we set off through the Churchyard and admired the well kept grass and the selection of lovely flowers, no rabbits here. The walk was pleasant and the footpaths good and in no time at all we were approaching the playing fields, surprisingly quiet for Sunday afternoon. Our walk coincided with the band concert at the Riverside and so finding a spare bench we settled down for an hours relaxation, helped along with an ice cream. The Knottingly Band played a lovely selection of music and it was quite amazing how many people came along with fold up chairs and enjoyed the sunshine and music. Next Sunday Dodworth Colliery Band play, followed on the 22nd by the Harrogate Band. Time beckoned and we retraced our steps and decided it was a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Tea and Toast: Despite it being holiday time, these afternoon get togethers are continuing on Tuesday between 2.30-4pm (ish) in East Keswick Methodist Church. All are invited and will be made welcome. For further information please contact Jeanette on 573442.

Diary Date: Bardsey Horticultural Society Annual Show – will be held on Saturday, September 4 in the village hall. If you need something to occupy the children during the holiday, encourage them to practice pictures from pasta shapes, decorating biscuits with flowers or paper plates with crowns, or making an edible monster. Adults also can start preparing for the show if your apples promise to be sweet and juicy, your runner beans prolific and your cakes and jams delicious. Show schedules and entry forms available from local retail outlets and committee members or ring 573549.
