A64 slip road closures

Drivers are being advised that overnight work to improve pedestrian safety between two bus stops along the A64 near Tadcaster in North Yorkshire will require the closure of slip roads.

The £165,000 Highways Agency project to provide a new footpath alongside the westbound entry slip road at the Headley Bar junction west of Tadcaster will get underway on Monday (February 13).

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Godfrey said: “This is important work to improve safety for pedestrians around this section of the A64 but particularly those using the westbound and eastbound bus stops.

“Drivers needing to use the junction overnight will experience moderate delays when the slip roads are shut because of the diversions and they should allow a little more time to complete their journeys.”

The project is expected to be completed by Friday March 16 and the westbound entry slip road onto the A64 from the A659 will need to close overnight – between 8pm and 6am each day - for most of that time.

The eastbound exit slip from the A64 onto the A659 will also need to close occasionally overnight.

When the slip roads are shut, clearly-signed diversions will be in place.

The new path will provide a safer link between the two bus stops almost opposite each other along the A64 about a mile east of its interchange with the A1(M).

Improvements such as dropped kerbs will make it clearer where bus users and other pedestrians should cross the carriageway.
