Wetherby Run challenge

Runners and joggers of all abilities are being urged to join the annual Wetherby Run on September 9.

The club, which is organising the 10k and Moores Mini Marathon fun run to raise funds for the Shaun Lee Johnston Fund, is expecting about a thousand runners but is expecting interest to surge because of the olympics.

Race Director Rob Gray of Wetherby Runners Athletics Club said: “We welcome all abilities and are proud to encourage and actively support runners who are new to this kind of activity.

“There are plenty of places left at the moment but we expect a surge in interest in the coming weeks as the London Olympic TV and media coverage begins to focus in on athletics during the games and also the Para-Olympic Games which follow later in the month.

The club is planning a taster evening during August for beginners and those who are looking to step up to their first major event.

Entry, £11 for club runners and £13 for unattached runners. Enter on-line at www.wetherbyrunnersac.co.uk or pick up a form at Wetherby Swimming Pool, Wetherby Sports Association and Wetherby Library.
