A dad was left shocked when his car’s rear window allegedly exploded as he drove through Morrisons’ car wash in Wetherby.
Matthew Haskayne was with his nine-year-old daughter sat in the front seat of the car, which they were taking to the car wash before part exchanging the vehicle.
His wife Vicky described what happened to the Wetherby News.
“They were going through the car wash and when the brush was going over the back of the car the window exploded in the car, causing a lot of damage,” she said.
“When it happened the attendant filled a form out and gave my husband a brush to clean up the car.
“We had to ring our insurance company up to get the car sent away and it wasn’t a case of just getting the glass replaced.
“You might expect a wiper coming off, but for something like that to happen is horrifying.
“Thank god our daughter was not injured, though she was absolutely traumatised.”
The Morrisons store said the manager has been in contact with the family since the incident took place and the matter is now with their insurance team for a full investigation.
A spokesman said: “If an incident like this occurs it is very serious so we have a procedure in place and the store manager did all the necessary procedure straight away.
“The store manager was in contact with the family and offered a £10 voucher as a good will gesture, completely separate from any compensation.
“It is a legal investigation, so rest assured we are giving it our full attention.”
