Volunteers needed for cancer care charity

NEW members are needed by a group that raises vital funds for a leading care charity.

Tadcaster and Sherburn Communities Fundraising Group for Macmillan Cancer Support needs help to carry on with its fundraising events such as the abseils, sponsored swims and casino nights it has organised spanning its 16-year history.

Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager, Clara White, said: “This committee has a wonderful and dedicated chairperson and fantastic treasurer who just need the help of some more local volunteers.

“Please help us raise funds (and a smile) for people affected by cancer by helping this group continue beyond their 16 years of fantastic fundraising.

“We are all affected by cancer and we can all help.”

Tadcaster and Sherburn Communities Fundraising Group recently presented one of their long term supporters, Freda Naylor, with an award for raising over £6,000 for Macmillan through making and selling wheat bags.

The award was presented by Clara and the fundraising group’s chairman Janet Burgis.

Macmillan’s primary goal is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer but, as they get less than 3 per cent of their income from the government, they need valuable support from volunteers.
