Fire crews were today tackling a blaze at Wetherby Racecourse.

A spokesman for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said part of a storage building next to the racecourse’s grandstand was alight.

A gas leak was also said to have been identified in the grandstand itself.

Crews from Wetherby, Tadcaster, Moortown, Stanks and Gipton were called to the incident shortly before 10am today (Sunday).

Later, the racecourse posted on its official Twitter feed with updates on the situation.

“We have had a fire today. Some damage externally to Bramham Hall but nothing that will stop business. Thanks for the concern everyone,” they said, before thanking the emergency services for their help.
